Our Trainers

Below is a list of our trainers.  Each trainer compliments Philip Starr Bloodline Service's philosophy of maintaining a point of difference with honesty and integrity.

Darryl Dodson

Darryl Dodson

Darryl Dodson is a trainer with the motto "Have horse will travel anywhere if the race suits" and his playground is anywhere between the cities of Adelaide & Melbourne. His Telopea Downs stables are situated roughly between those two cities, so he can easily go in either direction chasing the best options for his owners.

I first met Darryl in 1995 at the Adelaide yearling sales when I was exhibiting my broodmare book for the first time. I knew him by sight and a bit cheekily I told him I thought he could train, so he asked me how I came to that conclusion. My response was that I thought he trained more winners by supposedly "nondescript sires" than any other trainer I could think of, so he must be able to train.

When Darryl gets a horse right, they can stay right for ages. A track on his extensive property and swimming facilities offer plenty of variety for the horses and for fast work & jump-outs, Bordertown track is close by. He is prolific trainer of winners year in & year out in a very competitive environment. He keeps his team to around 30 horses to stay hands on. He fits our trainer's profile, by training plenty of winners and being a gentleman and man of integrity.

Come racing with Darryl and see what I mean.

From 65 runners in his first season he achieved a winning strike rate of 21.5%.

Colin Little, Lord Lodge

To win a Trainer's Premiership you need a lot of horseflesh.
Rightly or wrongly, Premierships are determined by the number of city wins. If Premierships were determined by the WINNER TO RUNNER ratio then you would see a very different picture indeed!

In the 2005/6 racing season Colin Little's racing stable boasted one of the best strike rates in the land. A staggering 1 in 4 of the horses he took to the races won! A further 53% of them were either placed 2nd or 3rd!

No other commercial racing stable in Victoria was able to boast that sort of percentage!!!
